Connect Microsoft Entra ID

Sync your Microsoft Entra ID directory with Scribe to import teammates, organizational units, and groups. Once connected, Scribe automatically stays in sync with your directory — when teammates join, leave, or change roles, their signatures update accordingly.

Prerequisites

  • A Global Admin role in Microsoft Entra ID
  • An active Microsoft 365 subscription
Only a Global Admin can authorize the connection between Scribe and Microsoft Entra ID. If you don’t have this role, Scribe will prompt you to invite your Global Admin to complete this step.

Step 1: Start the integration

Go to Settings → Integrations and click Connect on the Microsoft Entra ID card. A modal will appear with an overview of the setup steps:
  1. Connect Entra ID
  2. Select account
  3. Accept scopes
  4. Select teammates
Click Connect Entra ID to begin.

Step 2: Pick your Microsoft account

A Microsoft sign-in window will appear. Select the account associated with your organization’s Microsoft 365 tenant.
Make sure you sign in with an account that has the Global Admin role. If you sign in with a non-admin account, the authorization will fail.

Step 3: Accept permissions

Microsoft will display a “Permissions requested” consent screen listing the scopes Scribe needs to read your directory. These permissions allow Scribe to:
  • Read your organizational structure (users, groups, departments)
  • Deploy signatures to the right people automatically
  • Keep signatures updated when your directory changes
Review the permissions and click Accept.
Scribe only requests read-only access to your directory. No data is modified in your Entra ID. Scribe is SOC 2 Type II compliant — learn more about our security practices.

Step 4: Select teammates to sync

After authorization, the Synchronize Teammates modal appears. You have three ways to select which teammates to import:

Teammates tab

Browse and select individual teammates from your directory. Use Select all to import everyone, or pick specific people.

Units tab

Select entire organizational units to import all teammates within them at once. This is useful for large organizations where you want to sync specific departments.

Groups tab

Select groups from your Entra ID directory. Use the filter dropdown to narrow by group type:
  • Microsoft 365 groups
  • Email Enabled Security Groups
  • Security Groups
  • Distribution Groups
This filter helps you quickly find the right group when your directory contains many groups of different types.

Import options

At the bottom of the selection screen, you’ll find two additional options:
  • Import email aliases — Import aliases across your verified domains. Click the domain count to configure which domains to include.
  • Import shared mailboxes — Import shared mailboxes from your Microsoft 365 tenant so you can assign signatures to them as well.
Both options are enabled by default.

Step 5: Complete the sync

Once you’ve selected your teammates, click Synchronize. Scribe will import the selected teammates and their information. Going forward, any changes in your Entra ID directory (new hires, departures, role changes) will automatically sync to Scribe based on your auto-sync preferences.

Auto-sync settings

By default, Scribe automatically syncs new teammates added to your Entra ID directory. You can customize this behavior per unit or group:
  • Teammates — Toggle auto-sync for all future teammates not assigned to a specific unit or group
  • Units — Toggle auto-sync per organizational unit
  • Groups — Toggle auto-sync per group
You can adjust these settings at any time from Settings → Integrations → Microsoft Entra ID.

Troubleshooting

I don’t have the Global Admin role Ask your IT administrator to either complete the connection themselves, or grant you the Global Admin role temporarily. Scribe can send an invitation email to your admin on your behalf. The permissions consent screen shows an error Make sure you’re signed into the correct Microsoft account with Global Admin privileges. If your organization has conditional access policies, check that they allow third-party app consent. Teammates are missing after sync Verify that the missing teammates are included in the units or groups you selected. You can always go back to Settings → Integrations → Microsoft Entra ID to adjust your selection.
